Welcome to my blog in Term 2 for Art Portfolio. 

During the winter holidays I went home to my hometown of Sumy in Ukraine. And I had enough time to walk the streets of my city and see it again . I pay more attention to the style of architecture and the history of these buildings. One of the symbols of my city is a Altanka, which is an example of wooden architecture of the late XIX - early XX century. One of the features of this building  is that not a single nail was hammered in its construction. Only wood was used. There are many different patterns on Altanka, which are symbols of the Tripoli culture and paganism. And on this walls you can see signs of the sun, fertility, cross and stars. Nowadays there is a piano inside the altanka, which can be played by any person . So often go near it, you can see people playing and hear various songs. 

Also one of the significant historical and architectural constructions of my city is the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral.

The cathedral was built in 1678. Throughout time, the cathedral has been subjected to rebuildings and restorations. Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral is an example of Russian Baroque. It is decorated with different ornamentation, curved lines and domes. The facades are decorated with columns, pilasters and carvings, and the central dome is decorated with mosaics and frescoes. Inside the cathedral you can see frescoes and iconostases created by famous artists.
