Term two, Research - Gerrit Rietveld

 Gerrit Rietveld

For my project I will do research about Gerrit Rietveld and how he connected with De Stijl.

Gerrit Rietveld is a famous Dutch architect and designer. He lived from 1888 to 1964. Rietveld was known for his unique and innovative designs, simple but striking. He was a key figure in the De Stijl movement, which aimed to create art and architecture that emphasized simplicity and abstraction.

One of Rietveld's most famous works is the "Red and Blue Chair", which he created in 1917. This chair is a one of example of De Stijl principles with its simple geometric shapes and primary colors.

Rietveld's works focused on the use of basic shapes such as squares, rectangles, lines. Primary colors and asymmetrical compositions are used. Even now his emphasis on simplicity and functionality reflects current design trends.

Rietveld's architectural designs, such as the Schröder House in Utrecht, the Netherlands, are also examples of De Stijl. This home has an abstract design with bright colors and geometric shapes.

Overall, Gerrit Rietveld's contributions to the De Stijl movement and his designs continue to inspire artists and designers today, leaving a legacy in the world of architecture and design.

  1. What about the Gerrit Reitveld academy that we looked at in class, which is both in the De Stjil style and relevant to your project because it is a place of academic learning!!!! How does the chair link to your project?

You are still using translator software!
